Head Coach Bryan Bateman swam competitively for over 17 years. He swam for 4 of those years at Hinsdale Central High School. Retired from swimming in 2001, Bryan is an 11 time state champion, 7 time state record holder, and 2 time 20 and Under Nation Champion with one 20 and Under national record. He has coached swimming for over 13 years for several clubs including the Hornet Swim Club, the Westmont Swim Club, and the College of Dupage, and is currently an ASCA (American Swimming Coaches Association) Level 2 certified coach.

Assistant Coach Bay Bateman swam competitively in high school and college, with her career culminating in the Senior US Nationals in 1968. Married in 1973, both Bay and her husband, Bryan, coached at the US Naval Academy until 1975. Bay then served as assistant coach under Bryan for the varsity mens and womens teams in Wooster OH until 1980. They moved back to Clarendon Hills and Bay began to coach with Westmont Swim Club. Bay taught competitive skills to beginning, intermediate, and advanced level swimmers in the 10 and under age groups. Bay also coached for four years as an assistant coach with Lions Swim Club (Clarendon Hills) and three years as head coach, winning conference champs in 1991. From 1993 thru 1995 Bay coached with the Hinsdale Swim Club as 10 and under coach. Bay returned to Westmont in 1996, where she trained 12 Junior Olympic qualifiers and five top-8 finishers in the 10 and under age group during the 2003 and 2004 seasons.

Assistant Coach Bryan Bateman Sr is a long time Clarendon Hills resident (with wife Bay, and son Bryan) and graduate of Downers Grove North High School. Bryan holds multiple State Masters Records in the 50-54 age group category, as well as National Records set in 1998. A member of the Indiana University swim team from 1965 thru 1969, Bryan was a 10-time All-American sprinter. In 1969 he became the first swimmer to break the 45 second barrier for the 100 freestyle as he anchored his medley relay to an American Record. The team won the NCAA Championship that year, and went on to win an impressive six straight championships – a record which still stands today. His coaching experience includes Ruth Lake Country Club, 3 years assistant swim coach at U.S. Naval Academy, 5 years head mens swim coach at College of Wooster, in Ohio (20 All-American selections, Top Ten finish at Division III NCAA, 4 times second place team finish at OAC Conference Champs, one national champion swimmer), 2 years head womens swim coach at College of Wooster (several All-Americans, second place team finish two times in OAC Conference Champs). While at Wooster, Bryan was Asst. Professor in Dept. of Physical Education - taught courses in Exercise Physiology & Biomechanics, was certified Water Safety Instructor Trainer. More recently - 3 years assistant coach Westmont Swim Club, and these days assistant coach Hinsdale Hornets Swim Club (best job so far).....

Assistant Coach Mike Turk swam competitively, and also played water polo, for Lyons Township high school all 4 years he attended there. He qualified for the medley relay in state his junior year of high school. Mike has been assistant coaching at Salt Creek Club for over 5 years, and has been teaching swim lessons for over 6 at Lyons Township and Salt Creek. Michael is now a junior at UIC and is currently studying in the field of Physics with an emphasis in Aerospace Engineering and Astrophysics. “I hope that in the years to come we can make this club even better than the outstanding reputation it already has.”

Assistant Coach Mike Slotwinski swam competitively for 11 years. The first four years at Burbank Swim Club, three years at Hornet Swim Club, and four years at Hinsdale South High School. He was a state champion for the Hornet Swim Club and three time state qualifier at Hinsdale South High School in the 100 breaststroke, 200 Medley Relay, and the 200 & 400 Freestyle relays. He has been coaching the Hornets for a year now and he has taught the Learn-to–Swim Program for two years. Mike is currently a junior at DePaul University and studying Secondary Education with a Minor in Chemistry.

Assistant Coach Erin Heidkamp was an age group swimmer for the Hinsdale Swim Club for over 12 years. She swam on the Hinsdale Central swim team for four years, qualifying for state relays in her junior and senior years. Erin recently graduated from St Mary's College, and is currently working on her Masters in Social Work at UIC. She has served as a swim coach and lifeguard with certification and CPR training, during summers the past eight years at Salt Creek Club in Oak Brook, Butterfield Country Club, and Five Seasons Country Club in Cincinnati. Last summer, she served as assistant coach under our own Coach Bay at Salt Creek. Erin is truely excited to be a part of such an experienced coaching staff, and plans to learn and grow through getting to know all of our swimmers.
