- EARLY REGISTRATION - We would like to try something new for winter session and offer an early registration for all returning swimmers. If you did not receive tonight's email regarding early registration, details can be found here. Necessary forms for early registration are the USA Swim application , the winter registration form, and the master consent & waiver.
- We know there was some concern regarding seed times for the St. Charles meet. Updated times were sent to St. Charles before the meet. We were assured via email that the corrected times would be used on Saturday and Sunday (but not on Friday). Obviously this was not done by St. Charles without any explanation given. We apologize for any inconvenience.
- Due to computer problems at the HOSC/POSA meet, the initial results were incorrect. Revised final results have been posted.
- Is anyone interested in arranging our Holiday Party in December? If so, please contact a board member as soon as possible. Thanks!
- If anyone found a red ipod nano, please contact the Board at info@hornetswimclub.org. Grace Hennessey lost hers on Saturday night at the meet. Also, a Hornet Swim Team towel was found. If you are missing one, please let us know.
- A big "thank you" to all parents who helped time this weekend at St. Charles!
- Swim caps are in! See Mardie Leader at practice or check in the office for your order.
- We have Swim-a-Thon totals! Again THANK YOU to everyone who participated and volunteered. The swim-a-thon raised $7,798.50!!!!!! The top swimmers are: 1. Mia Chiappe ($525.50) 2. Alden Leader ($444) 3. Kate Joyce and Ryan Clancy ($440). Great job!!!!
- Results from yesterday's Swim Your Age have been posted in Meets. 15 meet records were set at this meet! Check out the new records here.
- Updated entries for the Hinsdale meet have been posted in Meets.
- The hotel information for the Schroder meet has been posted in Meets.
- Last night Banistre Lienhart left his new team suit (size 28) in the boys locker room at Stagg High School and at last week's meet, Grace Hennessey also left her suit in the locker room. If anyone found a team suit, please contact Coach Bryan or email info@hornetswimclub.org .
- The new 2008/2009 Age Group Time standards have been posted. Click here for Regionals and here for Champs.
- A word from our Coaches about the Swim Season - On Swimming Fast with the Hornets.
- A friendly reminder to all parents that swimmers should be ON TIME for practice. It's very difficult for the coaches to get everyone warmed up and started on time, when swimmers are straggling in every few minutes. The warmup is a very important part of practice to avoid injury and each swimmer should be able to do the full warmup, and not just the last 2 minutes because they are late.
- We are aware that the entries posted do not reflect all of the swimmers best times. Thank you to all the parents who have brought this issue to our attention. Please be assured that we are working to correct this problem.
- ** Calling all Volunteers ** We are in need of a Volunteer Coordinator Co-Chair, a Concession Co-Chair and two Social Committee Chairs. Please consider stepping up and helping. We would also like to invite all new swimmer parents or transfer swimmer parents to get involved. It's a great way to meet new people and support the club. Any questions, please email us.
- A friendly reminder that swimmers should arrive on time for practice. If your child is early, they should either wait for practice to start on the bleachers that are on deck, or up in the observation area. Swimmers should not be running around or talking to the coaches.
- The calendar and meet pages have been updated to include the dual meet schedule. Please note that sign up sheets have already been posted in the balcony. For dual meets, there is a maximum of 12 swimmers per gender, per age group. Also - pay close attention to the deadlines for meet sign ups. No email reminders will be sent. Additionally, the sign up sheets for the Swim Your Age ISI and Fox ISI are posted in the balcony. We strongly encourage all swimmers to participate.
- The meet packet has been posted in Meets for the away meet in Indianapolis in January. ** New parents, as discussed in our meeting, this is a good one to be familiar with. The meet is a qualifying meet, but the meet packet shows the times that the swimmer needs to accomplish in order to qualify.
- If you were unable to attend our New Parent Meeting, you can find an outline of our discussion points here. If you have any questions, please feel free to email the Board at info@hornetswimclub.org.
- Coach Bryan Sr--Does it again this year winning his age group in the Big Shoulders 2.5 kilometer Lake Michigan Open Water Challenge on September 6,
2008. He came in first in his age group with an astounding time of 35:41.
Not only did he age up this year-He cut over 1 min off his time from last
year-
1 min 9 seconds to be exact! Coach Bryan--You rule the pool! (And Lake Michigan too!) Congrats! (www.bigshoulders.org)
- Please note that effective this season, the GOLD group practice times have been changed to 6:45pm-8:45pm.
- The Doings had a great article about Hornets winning conference:

- Congratulations to our Mega-Zone qualifiers - Ryan Clancy, Jason Yang, Maya Rodriguez and Brianna Kirin. Congratulations as well to Team Illinois for winning the Mega-Zone meet!
- USA Swimming added a portal to their website that allows you to view all IL Swimming meet results. You can filter meets by date and season, and results by swimmer, age group, gender, team, event or cut. Check it out at: http://usaswimming.org/usasweb/DesktopDefault.aspx?TabId=1082&lscid=IL
- We have received the following notice from UIC:
Due to new safety concerns at the UIC Natatorium, chairs of any type (lawn chairs/folding chairs/etc…) WILL NOT BE ALLOWED into the facility. This has been deemed a security concern as it would create an evacuation hazard if a problem should arise. There are no exceptions to this rule. Spectators refusing to cooperate will be asked to leave the premises. If you require special seating then please inform the person at the ticket table and they will be able to assist you. Only coaches will be allowed to bring chairs on deck pending approval from the safety marshal.
On Friday August 1st, no one is allowed in the back of the building. Another group has paid to rent out the entire space on the south side of the building. This rule also abides by the safety concerns put forth by the director’s of the children’s day camp. There will be tents set up on the North side of the building (along Roosevelt Rd.), where people from the swim meet will be able to be outside. Just follow the signs to figure out where to go.
- Congratulations Hornets for being the SSSC Blue Division Conference Champs!!
- We are pleased to announce that we have hired a dryland instructor, Brian Kukulski. He will be working with the gold and higher practice groups at the beginning of their practice times three times a week during the afternoon sessions. Brian Kukulski has a degree in physical education and currently works for a local school district in addition to coaching various school sports teams.
- Here is the handout from the nutrition and exercise discussion with Christie Witte. It has some good information incase you were not able to make the meeting.
- Lastly, we do not send out email reminders to sign up for meets. Deadlines are posted as soon as they are available and we expect that everyone check the website frequently for updates.
- Addresses to our Secondary Pool locations can be found on the Contact Us page.
- We have a new Spiritwear order form for '08. There are new items available. Check it out here.
- Parents - please have your swimmer check with the coaches before leaving a meet to see if they will be swimming in a relay. The relay teams are usually not posted anywhere so it's important that all swimmers check so they don't miss an event. There is a great article on usaswimming.org about swim meets.
- In an effort to mitigate unnecessary risk, USA Swimming Inc and Illinois Swimming Inc guidelines restrict access to the pool deck to current members of USA Swimming which includes swimmers, coaches, officials, and registered non-athlete members. Exceptions are allowed for certain non-member volunteers who need to conduct official business on deck during swim meets (such as timers). Parents are asked to stay off the pool deck unless directed there by a club official. Thank you for your understanding and support in this matter.
- The Hornet Swim Club is a parent run organization. We hold Board Meetings the third Wednesday of every month at 7:30 in room 180. All parents are invited and encouraged to attend. If you have any concerns, questions or comments, please email info@hornetswimclub.org no later than 48 hours before the meeting so that it can be added to the agenda and discussed. Feedback is always welcome as we try to make our club better and better for the sake of our swimmers. Please keep in mind that agenda items need to be discussed first. If there is time, the floor can be opened for discussion, so if there is something important you want to talk about, make it an agenda item. Also, if you are a committee chairperson, you should plan on attending to give an update to the Board regarding your committee.
- REMINDER - even at away meets, we are required to provide timers. The more volunteers we have, the shorter the shifts are, which gives everyone a chance to watch their children swim.

DARTFISH HAS ARRIVED!
By now, you may have caught
wind of the impending arrival of DARTFISH!
The
Hornet Swim Club has acquired an exciting system that
will enhance the training and learning experience of all
our swimmers!
Dartfish is
video analysis software that enhances the use of video
in the sport of swimming. Our coaching staff
will now have an extremely powerful new teaching tool allowing
them to video tape, view and analyze our swimmers both
above AND below the water. Dartfish places
powerful analysis tools at the fingertips of our coaches.
The ability to analyze individual technique in practice
will help all our swimmers achieve personal and competitive
success.
Video footage of our swimmers
can be analyzed from different angles, slo-motion, stop
motion, frame by frame, image zoom and split-screen with
some the best swimmers in the world! Dartfish is
used extensively on the Colligate and Olympic level as
well as the USA National Swim Team.
This
is an exciting step forward for our club and all our swimmers.
As with any new technology, there will be a learning curve.
We will be gradually introducing the system to our swimmers
over the course of this fall season. Parents, it is extremely
important that you remind your swimmers to use extra caution
around the video camera, laptop computer and underwater
camera lenses that will soon start showing up on the pool
deck.
You
can view a quick video presentation of Dartfish at the
