(8/24) Thursday's board meeting will be held at Indian Prairie Library.
(8/19) We wanted you to be aware of an open water swim that will be held in Chicago on September 11 in case anyone is interested in participating.
Hornet Swim Club will NOT be participating as a team, nor will we be officially sending any coaches, but your swimmer is welcome to enter on his or her own. Coach Bryan is participating in the masters open water race that is held earlier that day, so he and Coach Bay will likely be there during the age group races to cheer on the swimmers (but not to organize or coach!).
You need the USA swimming registration number to enter – you can figure it out by using this formula. It is birthday (MMDDYY) then three letters of first name, middle initial and four letters of last name. Here is the "code" to help you think about it: MMDDYYFIRMLAST. If you have no middle initial, it is an *. Little Shoulders Flyer Little Shoulders Entry
(8/19) The August Board Meeting has been moved to Thursday Aug 26 at 6:30pm. Location tba.

The webcast will be airing with live action on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
(7/6) The ribbons from the Midway meet have been sent out and we should receive them soon.
(7/6)
Due to the conflict with the Hinsdale Meet on Friday, July 9, both morning and afternoon practices are cancelled that day.
(6/24)
Note that an updated meet packet for summer Regionals has been posted on the meet info page. The biggest update is that because it is a championship meet held during the long course season, according to Illinois Swimming rules, even though it will be swum in short course yards (SCY) it will be seeded using long course meters (LCM) times. This means that non-conforming times (SCY) can still be used to enter the meet, but swimmers with those times will be seeded last. The coaches will take care of all of this in entering the meet and you do not need to worry about any of it, but we know that some parents may want to be aware of the change.
(5/29) The coaches have completed swimmer evaluations for the Green and White groups. They are in your Hornet file folder (the file folder boxes in the balcony at the pool). Completing the evaluations is a very time consuming process. Yellow and up swimmers have more maturity to communicate with their coaches and share that information with their parents, while parents of younger swimmers find it difficult to learn about how their child is doing. Also, all swimmers had a comprehensive evaluation in November, and the coaches felt that not that much has changed for these swimmers. (New swimmers that have joined the team since November in Yellow & up will also be receiving evaluations shortly – we will notify you when they are available.)
(5/29)

(5/16)

(5/6) Updated Westmont entries, PAC entries and Champaign entries have been posted in meets.
(5/2) We have added pool time on May 10. Please take a look at the calendar as it involves two different pools and various times. Please note that Gold and Black will be OFF that night.

The board is working on finalizing summer practice facilities, practice times, and fees and will communicate that information as soon as possible. At the board meeting Wednesday, the board approved the following policies:
·
Summer Proration – same policy as last year: must be gone 4 consecutive weeks to qualify for proration. Click here for details.
·
Summer ISIs – Swimmers who were registered with HOSC for previous sessions and are currently registered as 2010 HOSC swimmers in the USA swimming database, but are not registered for summer, CAN enter summer ISIs. However, in addition to meet fees they will be charged a $10 per day surcharge to cover administrative and coaching support. For purposes of this policy, both the May 28-30 meet at Patriot Aquatics and the June 4-6 meet in Champaign will still be considered spring ISIs and no surcharge will be added for spring swimmers.
·
Unattached Policy – effective immediately, anyone wishing to enter a meet NOT on the Hornet swim meet schedule needs to request permission from the Head Coach. For details of this policy including a copy of the form, click here
(3/26) The proposed spring/summer meet schedule has been posted in Meets.
(3/17) Congratulations to our new incoming Board Members! Dave Vandenbosch - Co-President; Laurie Knutte - Vice President; Jim Hennessey - Treasurer; Inga Matulis - Member at Large
(3/14) Congratulations Hornets for placing 11th overall at State Champs out of 111 participating teams!!! WAY TO GO!!!

(1/27) * Photos, we need photos - for our bulletin boards. Please place copies of photos you would like to share of Hornet swimmers in the HOSC mailbox. Group photos of kids at Hornet events are best. We will be updating the bulletin boards in the hallway prior to the meet, so please have them in by Tuesday, February 9.
(1/17) We have a new logo! Coach Bryan's favorite charm was the four leaf clover, so it's only fitting that he be our lucky charm.
(12/13) Yesterday, Hinsdale Central honored Bryan and his swimming achievements at the high school boy's home meet. Copies of his records and photos were given to the Bateman family, who were also in attendance. We videotaped the occassion for those families that were not able to attend. Bryan holds 8 records on the board, two more than any other swimmer. In honor of his greatest achievement - the 50 free, swum in an amazing time of 20.86, the Hinsdale Central boys did not swim this event. Hinsdale Central Honors Bryan Bateman .

Thus, effective October 1, 2009,swimsuits shall meet the following requirements: (1) For male swimmers, the swimsuit shall not extend below the knees nor above the navel (2) For female swimmers, the swimsuit shall not cover the neck, extend past the shoulders, nor past the knee. I'VE COME TO HELP
"I am only one, but I am still one; I cannot do everything, but still
I can do something, and because I cannot do everything I will not
refuse to do the something that I can do."
--Nineteenth century writer Edward Everett Hale said that.
Every volunteered minute is an important one and contributes to the success of our Club.
Another reminder that swimmers are to talk to coaches before and after their races only. They are not to sit with or hang out with the coaches. This is very distracting and prevents them from doing their job. This also applies during practice. The coaches have many swimmers to coach and do not have time to chit chat on deck. Please remind your swimmers.
A friendly reminder to all parents that swimmers should be ON TIME for practice. It's very difficult for the coaches to get everyone warmed up and started on time, when swimmers are straggling in every few minutes. The warmup is a very important part of practice to avoid injury and each swimmer should be able to do the full warmup, and not just the last 2 minutes because they are late.

Board Meetings
The Hornet Swim Club is a parent run organization. We hold Board Meetings the third Wednesday of every month at 6:30 in room 180. All parents are invited and encouraged to attend. If you have any concerns, questions or comments, please email info@hornetswimclub.org no later than 48 hours before the meeting so that it can be added to the agenda and discussed. Feedback is always welcome as we try to make our club better and better for the sake of our swimmers. Please keep in mind that agenda items need to be discussed first. If there is time, the floor can be opened for discussion, so if there is something important you want to talk about, make it an agenda item. Also, if you are a committee chairperson, you should plan on attending to give an update to the Board regarding your committee. |
